Blundells' Quick Facts
- The cottage was built around 1860.
- It is made from stone taken from Mt Ainslie and Black Mountain.
- It was built as a worker's cottage for the Duntroon Estate. The sheep grazing estate was owned by the Campbell family.
- The cottage was surrounded by paddocks and overlooked the Molonglo River which was located a quarter mile (400 metres) away
- The Campbells had many people working for them. There were about 27 workers cottages on the Duntroon Estate, most of which are no longer standing.
- The Ginn family were the first to live in the cottage, they stayed for about 14 years.
- From the mid-1930s until just prior to opening as a museum the Cottage was commonly known as Oldfield's Cottage, after the last of its long terms residents, Alice and Harry Oldfield.
- During the 100 years the cottage was occupied, many different families lived there. The Blundells lived there for about 60 years.
- The cottage became a museum in 1964, walls were repainted (limewash) and some ceilings were restored.
- Electricity was only connected to the cottage when it became a museum, and the cottage has never been connected to the water mains.
- The cottage has a collection of objects that date from about 1890 – 1920. Some of the objects were used on the Duntroon Estate and others were donated by local families.
