Blundells' Cottage and Surrounding Area 1964

Blundells' Cottage Museum and Lake Burley Griffin both officially opened in 1964. The lake was formed when the Molonglo River was dammed. The river was approximately 400 metres away from the cottage, and was the only water supply when the Blundells lived there. They had to walk a fair distance to the river to cart their water – 400m is the same distance as a full lap of a sports oval. Imagine how hard it would have been to carry the water back to the cottage from the river. Even today, there are no taps bringing water into the cottage.
Does Blundells' Cottage look different to this photo now? What is missing on the island in the background?
