Kitchen, Unit: Cooking

Without electricity, gas or running water connected to the cottage, cooking could be very hard work.  Just chopping wood to heat the stove was a big job, before the cooking started!  There was no such thing as a supermarket, packaged meals or 'fast food'.  Everything was made from 'scratch' – bread, cakes, sauces, gravy, puddings, even pies. Does your family make any recipes from scratch? Is it hard?
