Kerosene Drawers Unit: Light and Heat

Kerosene drawers

Kerosene was first used in 1858. It is an oily liquid that burns steadily. Kerosene came in tins about the size of four loaves of bread.  When the kerosene was finished people reused the tins for other things as they were quite strong, and a good size.  Families often found new uses for old items and nothing was ever thrown out when it could be used again.   These kerosene tins at Blundells' Cottage were to make a set of drawers.
