Dear secondary teachers,

I am delighted to be able to offer you this education resource developed by the National Capital Authority, a statutory agency of the Australian Government. Our role is to manage the continuing interests of the Commonwealth in the National Capital. Our vision is for a National Capital which symbolises Australia's heritage, values and aspirations, is internationally recognised and worthy of pride by Australians.

The history of Australia's capital is full of fascinating stories, many of which will be valued by Australian high school students. This education resource offers you the ideal opportunity to engage with your students through discussion of important concepts such as national identity, national significance and future nation-building. This resource also gives you the opportunity to prepare your students prior to a visit to the National Capital.

I do hope that your students enjoy the many activities, maps and critical information in this resource and that it helps them to develop a deeper appreciation of their National Capital. It has a unique history. The future will be in the hands of your students.
